There are times during the year when you want to have a sale to move your inventory or to bring in needed money. Have fun figuring out innovative sales that are great for both you and your customers. Here are some sale ideas:
Rolling the Dice Fabric Sale
If you would like to turn over your fabric inventory, consider having a rolling- the- dice- fabric sale. Select a one- or two-week period for this sale. When your customers are ready to pay for their items, have them roll the dice to find their discounted percentage for their fabric.
2 on the dice = 5% off 3 on the dice = 10% off 4 on the dice = 15% off
5 on the dice = 20% off 6 on the dice = 25% off 7 on the dice = 30% off
8 on the dice = 35% off 9 on the dice = 40% off 10 on the dice = 45% off
11 on the dice = 50% off 12 on the dice = 55% off
If you prefer to have smaller percentages, use only one die (1-6). This would provide discounts between 5% to 30% off.
Rewarding-the-Early-Riser Fabric Sale
Here’s a sale that rewards the early riser. As people walk in the door, they are handed a piece of colored paper that signifies the time period they entered the store, which determines the amount the fabric will be discounted. We suggest 1-yard minimum cuts.
Here’s our discount suggestion:
5:00am -5:30am 50% 5:30am – 6:00am 45%
6:00am – 6:30am 40% 6:30am – 7:00am 35%
7:00am – 7:30am 30% 7:30am – 8:00am 25%
8:00am – 9:00am 20% 9:00am – 12:00pm 15%
12:00pm – closing 10%
Summer Sales
If summer months are slow times in your region, consider having a four-week fabric-color sale. Each week select one color as your “discount” color. Any fabric that has that color in it can be discounted the sale amount for that week. Offer a large enough discount to be an incentive to your customers.
Christmas in July Sale
On July 25th celebrate the spirit of Christmas with your customers. Discount your “Stocking stuffer” items the least amount. Then determine the different discounts for the different items in the store. It may be that you only discount Christmas-related items, but to make your sale more meaningful, broaden your discount to include items you really want to see sold.
Quilt Backing Sale
One week during the year have a quilt-backing sale. If people purchase 6 or more yards of one or more fabrics, they receive a discount. We suggest a 25% discount for this sale.
